Tuesday, November 27, 2018, is #GivingTuesday. On this day, people everywhere are encouraged to give back to nonprofits and other charities in their community.
2018 has been a big, BIG year for Tupelo-Lee Humane Society especially with the completion and official opening of our new shelter. And with big events like moving into a new home happening, TLHS needs the help of our community now more than ever. Here are just a few reasons you should donate to the Humane Society on Giving Tuesday.
You’re helping the least and most vulnerable residents of Tupelo and Lee County. Sure, animals can hunt and scavenge for food, and perhaps they can even find a covered area to shelter in during a storm. But pets can’t get rid of fleas, heal their wounds or take themselves to the vet to be healed from a disease. They can’t always find a decent, balanced meal or a warm place to sleep. With your help, though, we can help the lost pets in our area with just about every need.
A little donation goes a long way. You don’t have to be rich to give. A $5-$20 donation helps buy food, dish soap, and other cleaning supplies. If you don’t have the extra funds to give, you can donate paper towels, dry or wet pet food, or pet toys to the shelter. Those things may not seem like much but the truth is, those supplies provide our shelter pets with a comfortable, clean and nourishing environment.
You can help us pay off the remainder of our new building debt. Unfortunately, we did not get to move into our shelter debt-free. But we are close! Your monetary donation can help us pay off our mortgage and enjoy our new center free from debt. Plus, no monthly building payment means more money can go to the pets living at the shelter.
You’ll get personal satisfaction from knowing you’ve helped your community. The old saying “‘tis better to give than to receive” is true. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being able to give back to those in need.
Your donation is tax deductible. That’s right. You’ll eventually get back what you give. Tupelo-Lee Humane Society qualifies as a charity that can receive tax-deductible donations.
