LOW-COST SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC OPENS IN TUPELO

The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society will host a grand opening celebration for the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society-North Mississippi Spay & Neuter Clinic located at 1508 South Gloster Street, on Monday, March 22. The event will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Jack Reed, Jr.

“Our goal is to work on prevention instead of reaction to the high number of animals dropped off at our shelter and the killing of the many animals that there are not enough homes for,” said Debbie Hood, executive director of the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society and Spay Clinic. “This is a big step for us and we hope to be able to lower the high euthanasia rate substantially in the first year.”

The projected number of spay and neuters for the first year of operation for the clinic is 6,250. They plan to transport animals from 14 counties within a 60 mile radius of Tupelo to the clinic to be spayed and neutered. Funding for the clinic was provided by the Humane Society of the United States to open a model Humane Alliance high-volume, high-quality, low-cost spay and neuter clinic in the North Mississippi area. The clinic will not serve as a full-service veterinary clinic, but will refer clients to area veterinarians for follow-up visits and yearly health check-ups. Dr. Isis Johnson, formerly with No-Littering Spay Clinic, has enabled the clinic to open so quickly by graciously loaning equipment and cages to the staff. Hood expects that the clinic will be fully equipped with all new cages and surgery equipment by June 2010.

“By working together as a community we can stop the overpopulation,” said Hood.

We are proud to support and participate in Spay Day 2010!

It's not just rabbits who multiply like rabbits! Millions of homeless cats and dogs in shelters await adoption. Sadly, about 4 million each year are euthanized. That's why you need to spay or neuter your pet. Spay/neuter also improves pet health and behavior, saves tax dollars, and increases the quality of life for all.

Visit the link above or call our spay clinic phone 662-210-SPAY (7729) to participate in The Humane Society of the United States' 14th annual Spay Day USA on February 24.

We also have posted some Spay and Neuter Information on our website here. This is posted courtesy of the Humane Society of the United States and is valuable information everyone should know!
